Key Highlights

  • Fully-Managed, Automated Orchestration for Any Project Type: Edgegap's containerized orchestration seamlessly integrated with iLLOGIKA's custom 4v1 matchmaking via simple API calls. The platform's dashboards made it easy to visualize connections, track deployments, and monitor each environment without manual infrastructure management.

  • Regionless Global Hosting to 615+ Locations: Edgegap's patented decision-making system automatically deploys servers at the ideal location across 615+ locations at a single universal price. This eliminated the traditional trade-off between cost and coverage, enabling consistent low-latency gameplay globally.

  • Instant Deployments & Affordable Pricing: Edgegap deploys game servers in 1-3 seconds worldwide and scales to 14M concurrent players within 60 minutes. The competitive, universal pricing model allowed iLLOGIKA to build an ambitious multiplayer experience without sacrificing coverage for cost.

  • Dedicated Support: iLLOGIKA received fast, direct, human support with clear documentation and dedicated integration solutions. This responsive support and simple implementation process enabled the team to get 7 Days Blood Moons on the platform quickly.

The Studio

iLLOGIKA is a Montréal-based game development studio who was entrusted with developing an original project within the widely popular 7 Days to Die license by original creators The Fun Pimps Entertainment LLC.

Building atop this exciting IP, the team developed an adrenaline-fueled 4v1 survivor (PvP) and PvE experience with 7 Days Blood Moons. Published by The Fun Pimps, creators of 7 Days to Die, and developed by iLLOGIKA. The game brings a unique combination of FPS, survival horror, RTS, tower defense and a robust progression system.

The Challenge

Any multiplayer project is complex, alongside the expectations of one of the most celebrated multiplayer game of all time which continues to be popular with 30,000 to 50,000 players concurrent players to this day.

To deliver on this level of ambition, iLLOGIKA investigated deeply amongst all technical platforms.

The Solution – Game Server Orchestration

Enter Edgegap’s game server hosting and orchestration, which allows developers to scale to 14M concurrent players (“CCUs”) within 60 minutes. More than enough to match the project upside.

Edgegap’s modern orchestration is built on three major foundations that help studios with their game server hosting:

  1. Edgegap uses containers, which standardize the deployment of these compute workloads, solving performance consistency across online experiences and enables Edgegap’s game servers to be deployed in 1-3 seconds worldwide to launch games faster.

  2. Edgegap's orchestration leverages the world's first, and largest, regionless edge network that enables game studios to deploy game servers worldwide to 615+ locations at a single price, solving both the cost and coverage issues for game studios where one (usually coverage) had to be sacrificed to optimize the other (usually cost).

  3. Finally, Edgegap's orchestration uses a patented decision-making system to deploy game servers at the ideal location for each player in a match (usually the closest), helping improve the in-game experience with lower latency for all players

  4. Edgegap also prides itself on its easy integration and support.

Everything starts with integration, and Edgegap’s dedicated integration solutions, such as its dedicated Unity plugin, and clear and simple documentation helped iLLOGIKA get 7 Days Blood Moons on the platform quickly. As Olivier Martin, Technical Director at iLLOGIKA, points out:

“We were impressed by how simple the implementation was, combined with […] fast, direct, human support.”

Edgegap’s orchestration can deploy a game server with a simple API call, and in the case of iLLOGIKA, that meant their custom matchmaking purpose built for their unique 4v1 PvP gameplay. As Hervé Lange, Senior Technical Director at iLLOGIKA (and a video game pioneer!) mentions:

"The integration with our custom matchmaker was seamless!"

When it comes to operating its game server deployments, Edgegap’s analytics and monitoring tools continuously help the development team to optimize their resources usage. As Mohamed Errami, Game Developer at iLLOGIKA states:

"It’s easy to visualize the connections and the status of each environment. The dashboards are quite useful for deployment logs and for understanding what is happening in each environment."

Integration and operations are great, but to thrive, multiplayer using dedicated game servers need to make economic sense. Thanks to Edgegap single, universal price on its regionless network of 615+ locations worldwide, it helps all games studios develop and commercialize online, realtime multiplayer experiences that are financially viable. All while ensuring a consistent the ideal end user experience worldwide when traditionally, studios must balance the cost of hosting services and the size and revenues of each target market.

As Mohammed and Hervé mentions, respectively:

“We were impressed [by Edgegap’s] competitive pricing

Edgegap combines reliability, competitive pricing, and excellent support.”
