The Company

AlensiaXR is an EdTech company pioneering immersive technology for healthcare education. Founded in 2024 as the exclusive provider of HoloAnatomy®, the platform traces its roots to a landmark 2014 collaboration between Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic. That partnership set out to reimagine how medical, nursing, dental, and physician assistant students learn human anatomy.

In 2025, AlensiaXR launched HoloAnatomy® .NEXT™ on the Meta Quest 3 and future XR headsets. It is a flexible, collaborative learning environment where instructors build rich 3D lessons and students explore complex anatomical structures together in real time, whether sharing the same physical space or joining from different locations entirely.

At its core, HoloAnatomy® .NEXT™ is a shared session experience. Students wearing XR headsets see and interact with the same 3D curriculum simultaneously, guided by an instructor's authoring tools. That shared, real-time nature places significant demands on the underlying infrastructure.

The Challenge

Delivering a seamless shared XR experience to university classrooms worldwide is unforgiving from an infrastructure standpoint.

XR applications are acutely sensitive to latency, and unlike traditional devices like PC, are not wired by design which further increases the networking issues and further increase latency.thus, latency. Which translates to degradation in real-time synchronization of the shared XR session and is immediately felt by every participant in the session. Not ideal for allany participants.

AlensiaXR faced three specific problems:

  • First, sessions needed to spin up instantly with servers placed as close to participants as possible, regardless of where in the world a university was located.

  • Second, the team runs significant custom logic for managing multiplayer sessions and needed a platform flexible enough to work with their existing backend without constraining how servers were allocated.

  • Third, without adequate visibility into deployments, debugging and optimizing performance was slow and imprecise. The team needed reliable, built-in tooling to understand what was happening in each environment.

The Solution – Edge Server Orchestration

Edgegap's regionless orchestration platform, built on the world's first and largest edge network across 615+ locations, addressed each of these challenges directly.

  • Instant global deployment: Edgegap deploys servers in seconds at the optimal location for each session, automatically and on demand, without manual region selection or idle pre-warmed fleets. For AlensiaXR's university customers distributed worldwide, this translated directly into a better, lower-latency shared XR experience.

"Edgegap makes it really easy to deploy servers near users that will be joining a server pretty much anywhere in the world. This helped us reduce latency for our customers." - Brandon Hedges, Senior Development Manager / Senior Software Engineer at AlensiaXR

  • Increased Server Allocation Efficiency: Edgegap integrated cleanly with AlensiaXR's existing backend. The team retained full ownership of their custom multiplayer session logic while gaining instant, on-demand server deployment. The result was a meaningfully more efficient allocation process than what they had before. As Brandon Hedges states:

"It was also very easy to integrate with our backend and actually allowed us to make server allocation much more efficient than before."

  • Built-in monitoring and metrics: Edgegap's native monitoring and logging tools gave AlensiaXR the visibility needed to debug issues and fine-tune deployments without building a separate observability layer. Having access to ready-made metrics proved directly useful in optimizing how sessions performed in production. As Mr. Hedges mentions:

"Edgegap has great built-in monitoring and metrics that help with debugging and tweaking deployments — that was really helpful to us."

Conclusion

The Edgegap platform's automated scaling capabilities eliminated the time-consuming process of manual infrastructure management and ensured resources matched demand.

Increased regional access enhanced players’ online experience by dynamically placing servers at the optimal edge location for each session and the simplification of infrastructure management allowed the team to redirect their focus towards the desired focus of core XR experience’s development.

But ultimately, what made it work is plainly stated:

“Edgegap makes it really easy”
